Unboxing [JP]: Gal*Gun - Standard Edition (PS3)

Been many months since I last imported and the rate improved so I went onto another import spree. First up we have a rare out of print game due to the publisher going bankrupt and as such I acquired a pre-owned copy.

Gal*Gun (ぎゃる☆がん) is an on-rails shooter released in 2011 from developer Inti Creates and publisher Alchemist, and became one of the most well-known Japanese IPs in the anime community in recent years for its insane concept. That concept being every anime girl in a school wants to date you and you have to stop them otherwise you will die. This game eventually got referenced completely in No Game, No Life which was funny to watch.

The game originally released exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2011 but eventually got a release in 2012 on the PlayStation 3 with extra content including PlayStation Move support. The version I have is the PlayStation 3 release as it's region free like 99% of the catalogue. As mentioned the game went out of print due to the publisher going bankrupt so physical copies are pretty rare now if you want it sealed/new. Pre-owned copies are still around at a decent price at least for now.

The game itself is import friendly gameplay-wise thanks to the on-rails shooter concept, however you will bump into dialogue choices that affect the path taken which does require knowledge of the language. Thankfully there are walkthroughs available online that will help you on that.

Format: PlayStation 3 (also available on Xbox 360)
Version: Japan
Exclusive: No
Local Players: 1
Online Players: 0
Resolution: 480p/720p
HDD Space: 2900MB
Trophies: Yes

Also worth noting that the game used to have tons of downloadable content and even a playable demo on the Japanese PlayStation store, however all of it has been delisted due to the publisher. This instalment was never released outside Japan while the sequels have, so this is an interesting game to own for my shelf. The next title after this is Gal*Gun: Double Peace which does reference this game however you can start the franchise with that one if needed be.

Gal*Gun is available to own on Solaris Japan. I bought my pre-owned copy from Solaris Japan for around £25.
