Unboxing [US]: Maken-Ki! - Complete Series: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

For this post, we'll be taking a look at the latest fanservice show Funimation is bringing out; Maken-Ki! Some of the photos shown below may be Not Safe For Work.

Note that this post has been updated (8th November 2015) to reflect the new blog format and add additional notes to the release.

Maken-Ki! (also known as Maken-Ki!: Battling Venus) is (as you probably have guessed) a fanservice ecchi show about a guy caught up with girls battling each other with Makens in high school. The show was adapted from the manga of the same name and the anime is rather.. okay to say the least. The final few episodes are apparently filler but nevertheless the show has its moments (in comparison to Season 2).

This Funimation release contains the first season of the series with episodes 1-12 and an OVA across 2 Blu-ray and 3 DVD discs. Given this is a Funi release the extra content is self-explanatory with the usual Funi extras but there are extras that stand out like the Secret Training shorts. For Kadokawa reasons, the series is only compatible with Region A and Region 1 players. Each character is on a side for all of the sets so there's plenty ways to choose from when choosing covers.

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):
Takeru enrolled in Tenbi Academy because the girl-to-guy ratio is, like, 3 girls for every guy. But this bevy of bombshells is actually a school where teens beef up their combat skills using a magic power thingy called a Maken. Redheads with wicked high kicks, shocking blonde bullies, and aggressive brunettes are EVERYWHERE. And every time there’s a brawl, their clothes tend to disintegrate. Distracted by all the bouncy brawlers, Takeru has a hard time concentrating on his training. Things get sticky when the hornball can’t figure out how to use his Maken. If he doesn’t find his mojo quick, he’ll be dumped by the school of his dreams—or destroyed by an attacker who’s after his magic power thingy!
