Unboxing [UK]: From Up on Poppy Hill (BD/DVD)

Went to the local HMV store and they were still doing their 2 for £25 deal on Studio Ghibli to promote The Wind Rises being released in cinemas. In the end, I noticed more Ghibli titles available than usual and decided to pick two up for Blu-ray, the one I'll be unboxing is From Up on Poppy Hill.

Note that this post has been updated on 18th July 2017 to reflect the current blog format.

From Up on Poppy Hill (Coquelicot-zaka kara) is a 2011 film directed by Goro Miyazaki, the son of Hayao Miyazaki who is also known for also directing Tales from Earthsea. The 19th Studio Ghibli film focuses on a story set during the Japanese Olympics back in the early 1960s. Unlike Tales from Earthsea this film was better received from audiences and critics for the director.

This release from Studio Canal is pretty simple. A standard combo pack with English & Japanese audio with English subtitles plus unlockable subtitles and Region B/2 only compatibility. The DVD discs are also PAL authored. The first run of the Studio Ghibli sets also come with slipcovers plus a number on the spine to match each Ghibli film released. The number isn't the exact release order of the films from Japan but rather randomised until the newer films came along.
