Unboxing [US]: Shakugan no Shana - Season 2 Part 1: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

The scorching saga continues with the second season of Shakugan no Shana.

Shakugan no Shana is a well known action supernaturnal (with romance later in the franchise) series. The show aired back in 2005 (season ended in 2006) and is based on the light novel of the same name. This release is the second season of the scorching saga.

The Funimation release contains the English and Japanese audio with optional English subtitles (not locked) for the Japanese version. The version that I picked up is the Limited Edition artbox (the entire second season is available under the S.A.V.E. label). The set contains a chipboard artbox to fit both parts of the season in addition to the single Blu-ray case which contains 2 DVD discs and 2 Blu-ray discs.

Apologises for the rather poor condition for the artbox, you can thank Amazon US's satisfying packaging service. Before I forget, I should point out that this Limited Edition set is now soon to be going out of print and with the S.A.V.E. edition not including a suitable reversible cover (no title on the spine) it makes sense to go out and find the original sets (good thing I did that with Shiki). I should also mention that the second season is also an upconversion (an upscale) much like the first season.

The studio behind Toradora! and Okami-san and Her Seven Companions presents the iconic series about the spark between a hot-blooded huntress and a teenage boy as they maintain the balance between the ordinary world and the supernatural.

The heated bond between Shana and Yuji is tested as their paranormal adventures continue. The Flame Haze fends off supernatural foes by night. By day, she contends with a classmate who’s also after Yuji’s heart. Emotions flare as a suspicious transfer student who resembles a recently defeated Denizen clings to Yuji. His training rises in intensity when they catch wind of a revered warrior in search of her lost lover—who will stop at nothing to extract the power keeping Yuji alive!

  1. Sigh, the time were FUNi actually used disc art.

Dammit Dammit Dammit, I cancelled my pre-order fro Shiki then re-ordered and got the shitty keepcase :( man that looks so good on your shelf.

The only Ltd set from Funi I have is The Legend of the Legendary Heroes and I ordered via Amazon and it was indeed damaged too.

    1. That's a shame about the damage, the set looked really good based on the cover and spine (and surprisingly enough the LE is still around, maybe everyone went for the complete set instead).

Shiki was actually quite a funny story for me and I think I mentioned it in the Part 2 unboxing. But basically I thought Funimation would release a Part 1 Standard version so I wouldn't have to worry about picking up the second half (at the time I prioritised on Artboxes that hold Part 1 + 2 together) but unfortunately Rightstuf said both parts were selling out and I just managed to get the second half in time before it disappeared (the reason behind it was to put both parts out into a SAVE edition to get rid of the stock). I would have been so pissed if I missed that chance.

  2. What happened was they put some of my orders on top of the artbox and the weight of them caused the box to crease a bit and dent in.

Man, talk about luck! When you order from Rightsuf do you factor in customs charges too? Or do they never hit?

    1. It's pure luck but the first three Rightstuf orders (Tenchi Muyo OVA LE, Gunbuster vs Diebuster BD-Box, Baka & Test Season 2) went through like normal. During the easter season, pretty much everybody got hit by customs and as a result my two orders in May (Strike Witches & a bunch of Blu-rays) got delayed because of it. The ones I got away with were only a single item while the others were 2-3 in one package.

The Shiki Part 2 I got through UP1 (who I assume usually get stock from Rightstuf) but of course that did get delayed due to the US Snow Storm.
