Unboxing [US]: Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day: The Movie - Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Another Aniplex of America title is now part of my collection and it's none other than more tears to be shed with the arrival of the Anohana movie. Here's a good overview of what the package has to offer.

Anohana the Movie is a part-recap and part-sequel to the main series (Anohana). The story is quite tragic but given that I had yet to watch the series (I'll explain why in just a sec) I have heard a lot of sad but positive reviews about the franchise in general so to have the film picked up by Aniplex is a good thing I guess (meaning the film gets a rather nice but relatively pricey treatment).

The reason I picked up this set before diving into the main series is because it turns out this version of the set is actually about to sell out (well, according to Rightstuf since it's under the closeout section and they generally mean that the item is going out of print) so I decided to get the film as soon as possible since the main series is released by NIS America and will be around for as long as possible (the show did get the Premium treatment but it sold out just before I bought my first anime import, now it's available in standard edition form).

This Collector's Edition set contains the Blu-ray and DVD version of the film with a compilation soundtrack and some mini goodies like a poster and booklet. This is also one of the first sets to get the new Aniplex packaging treatment where they unfortunately ditched the chipboard artbox and went for the Madoka Magica style packaging using thick card (still nice but can be flimsy). Like all Aniplex of America sets, the Blu-ray is region free and contains unlockable subtitles. The audio for this film is in Japanese only with English subtitles (much like the main series).

Plot Synopsis (via Back cover):
Jintan, Menma, Anaru, Yukiatsu, Tsuruko, and Poppo - six grade-school students who were the best of friends. As the "Super Peace Busters," they always played together at their "secret base" until Menma died in a tragic accident.

Five years later, Menma appeared before Jintan, now a high school freshman. No one could see her but Jintan, and Menma told him that she wanted the Super Peace Busters to grant her a certain wish. But not even Menma herself remembered what that wish was. Having been traumatized by Menma's death, the five had drifted apart, but after giving vent to their bottled-up feelings in an emotionally-charged moment, they gradually went back to being the "gang" of years past. And then Menma said goodbye, leaving letters to everyone of the Super Peace Busters.

  1. Do Rightstuf ship Aniplex releases out of America?
I see you own several, but according to the product pages on their site they don't

    1. Despite what they state on the product page, they do actually ship outside of America (UK for example). It's just to keep Aniplex of Japan happy plus they don't ship to Japan.

I got my sets from United Publications to avoid customs but given the currency rate at this point I'll probably end up using Rightstuf again just in case I save a bit of cash.
