Unboxing [US]: Fate/Zero - Box Set 1: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

After picking up Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari Black, I was wondering what to pick up next from Aniplex. Blue Exorcist is a great manga but the anime went into filler, Sword Art Online I have already seen and Fate/Zero is so popular that Ufotable is currently working on Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Since picking up the Anohana film and some recent events that had occurred, I decided that my next set would be about Fate.

So then, let the 4th Holy Grail War commence!

Fate/Zero is the prequel to the Fate/Stay Night visual novel franchise, written by Gen Urobuchi as a light novel series. The light novel was then adapted into an anime by Ufotable with Urobuchi returning alongside the usual Aniplex trio team (Yuki Kajiura with music and Ei Aoki as director in particular).

Just to get the fact out of the way - I haven't watched any of the Fate shows. That's right I still haven't watched Fate/Zero and even though it was on Crunchyroll my sole reason for waiting was simply because I wanted the Aniplex set.. and because there are a bunch of shows I needed to watch first.

This very expensive Limited Edition set from Aniplex of America contains the first half of Fate/Zero Blu-ray with the first original soundtrack, a DVD with staff interviews and some mini goodies like a booklet and a collectible card. This (alongside the Blue Exorcist movie) is one of the last Aniplex sets to have all of the cases placed inside a chipboard artbox. Like all Aniplex of America sets, the Blu-ray is region free and contains unlockable subtitles. The audio for this set contains the original Japanese language and an English dub, however due to disc space issues the English audio is reduced to Dolby Digital 2.0 only. Note the additional DVD is for Region 1 players only.

The story starts from zero: the beginning...

The Holy Grail War - in this ultimate battle field, in order to obtain the power of the "Holy Grail" that grants any unattainable wish, seven "masters" summon "servants" and fight against each other until the last one survives.

After three inconclusive Holy Grail Wars, the fourth battle has finally started. Hoping to win the battle, each master is heading to the new battlefield, Fuyuki. However, there is a man who is confused and struggling, unable to find meaning in the war. His name is Kirei Kotomine. He wonders why he has been appointed to this task, but without any answers, he encounters his archrival - Kiritsugu Emiya, a master who craves the miracle Holy Grail most of all.

The untold truth of the Fourth Holy Grail War that occurred 10 years before Fate/Stay Night - the truth of the battle fought by Shiro's adopted father, Rin's father, and young Kirei Kotomine - is about to be revealed!
