Unboxing [UK]: Yakuza Kiwami - Steelbook Launch Edition (PS4)

It's great to see Yakuza come back even bigger for the west after the hiatus it had on localisation due to poor sales on the English releases. As part of its deal with SEGA, Deep Silver will be publishing Yakuza Kiwami for UK and Europe.

Yakuza Kiwami is the first instalment in the Kiwami (Extreme) style of the Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza / Like a Dragon) franchise. It is a remake and re-imagining of the first Yakuza game released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005 (2006 for the English regions). The Kiwami game was released in January 2016 in Japan before being localised for the west on August 2017.

Kiwami is based on the Yakuza 0 engine so there will be some familiar gameplay styles and cutscenes while also adding some changes & adjustments from the first Yakuza game. The most notable additions include brand new story scenes to help fill some missing gaps in the original story, and a new gameplay feature that has Goro Majima stalking Kiryu everywhere throughout Kamurocho, a fictional version of Tokyo's Kabukicho.

Unlike the original game, Yakuza Kiwami does not feature an English dub which is inline with the rest of the franchise (only the first game got dubbed). The game is also designed in a sense that you should play Yakuza 0 beforehand but it is still possible to start with this title, though it is recommended you either try Yakuza 0 or the original Yakuza version first.

This Steelbook Launch Edition is basically the game in a steelbook case. Not much to say but like Persona 5 the artwork is really cool and worth picking up for. Plus the price point is also pretty solid - £29.99. A standard edition is available for around the same price.
