Unboxing [JP]: Strider Hiryu (PS3)

Arriving on the same day as Gundam Side Stories, this is actually the misplaced item. However, after getting in contact with customer services they decided to let me keep it (probably wasn't cost effective for either of us). Regardless this is a pretty good game from what I have heard so here we go.

Strider Hiryu (ストライダー飛竜) is a 2014 action platformer game developed and published by Capcom. This is a reboot to the classic Strider games released back in 1989-90s. The game received positive reception and has a lot of fans loving it, so I've been aware of this reboot for quite sometime. Many of them have gone for the most recent platforms like the PlayStation 4 for instance which has 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second.

Strider Hiryu is one of the few games that received a retail release in Japan that did not get a retail release elsewhere. Other examples were Devil May Cry 4's special edition release, the remaster of Okami, a remaster of the Resident Evil remake, and even Vampire Resurrection (aka Darkstalkers) which I recently picked up earlier in the month. Granted the latter two did but only years later on a different platform. Strider Hiryu was released on multiple platforms but only the PlayStation 3 version received a retail release.

This retail release offers the entire game in both English & Japanese versions, much like Darkstalkers Resurrection, Okami and Resident Evil remake when they were released on PS3. To access the English version you will need to go into the PS3's system settings and switch the language to 'English (US)'. 'English (UK)' will not work as my console is based on that setting and I have tried.

One of the benefits of owning the retail version was a free download code for Strider 1 & 2 plus a theme for the PS3 dashboard, however the code expired back in 2016 (Capcom why?).

This game is import friendly, in fact the mention of English support makes it even easier. But this game's retail release is recommended only if you want a physical copy, as there isn't one for any other platform. It's also going up in price and the download code has expired, so it's up to you on whether you feel you'll want to acquire it or not. The game is available to purchase on Solaris Japan in both new/sealed and pre-owned condition, and is available digitally worldwide on multiple platforms including PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam.
