Unboxing [UK]: Steins;Gate 0 - Limited Edition (PS4 + Visual Novel)

A sequel that came out of nowhere, and also out of nowhere gets localised for English release!

EL PSY CONGROO

Note: There will be spoilers for both the Steins;Gate visual novel game and anime adaptation, so be warned.

Unboxing [UK]: Akira - Collector's Edition 2016 Re-Release (BD/DVD)

Akira! One of the first anime films I had ever seen. I already owned the Manga UK DVD that was re-released around 2011/12-ish but at the time a Blu-ray version was already out there, and I've been meaning to own the HD version since. And just recently this release happened, so here it is.

Unboxing/Overview: One Piece Manga Box Sets 1, 2 & 3

After waiting two years I finally have access to the next batch of volumes for the long-running shonen series One Piece. And I figured it would cool to share the other two box sets alongside the current one, so this is an overview for Box Sets 1 & 2 and an unboxing for Box Set 3!

TO ONE PIECE!

Industry News: Funimation March 2017 Release Slate

A few days late (well I've been occupied) but Funimation have continued to slowly put out new titles and bring in more re-releases.

Friday, 16 December 2016

Unboxing [US]: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Here's a quick recap to explain this pickup - I pre-ordered the set on the day that the UK officially voted to leave the EU and I pre-paid early because I feared the rate would get worse down the line. And by the time the set had arrived, I was already back in Uni so it was only until now that I was able to open the set.

So here's a look at the recent collector's edition set from Funimation.

Unboxing [UK]: Mai Mai Miracle - Collector's Edition & Artbook (Kickstarter) [$130 Tier] (BD/DVD)

It took a long time, but Anime Limited have finally managed to finish the kickstarter for Mai Mai Miracle.

Here's what this kickstarter exclusive collector's edition release looks like.

Unboxing [US]: Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Heart Throb - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Well this took longer than I anticipated. The set shipped out weeks in advance from Rightstuf but due to international shipping it arrived later than everyone else including those who bought the set from United Publications. Oh well.

Otaku Collection 2016: November Update | MCM Birmingham Pickups, Final Fantasy XV & Shinkai Films

This is probably my best haul of pickups since May 2015. Thanks to the combined haul from MCM Birmingham Comic Con plus the All the Anime sets I picked up and a few others.

Unboxing [UK]: Makoto Shinkai Twin Pack: The Place Promised in Our Early Days & Voices of a Distant Star - Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Fun fact - This is actually Anime Limited's third license (February 2013 for reference). It has taken this long to finally see a release and I managed to pick up this set at a slightly cheaper price via HMV. Of course many others who pre-ordered it with Amazon got it for way less.

Here's a good look at what this long awaited set has to offer.

Unboxing [UK]: Outlaw Star - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

The fifth and last (but not least) MCM pickup is another Sunrise show - Outlaw Star.

It was Anime Limited's second license and now the Blu-ray is available!

Unboxing [UK]: Sword Art Online II - Part 2: Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

The fourth MCM pickup is rather long overdue. Back in April I acquired the first part of four for the second season of Sword Art Online II. However not long after that the prices went rather weird so Part 2 wasn't available at a decent value. I decided to save myself the hassle by getting this part from MCM since £25 is better than paying £35+.

Also the box's covers are pretty tough to catch on a camera, so don't be surprised if the angles are rather unreadable.

Unboxing [UK]: The Tatami Galaxy - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

The third MCM pickup is a Beez rescue title, and a surprising addition to the Anime Limited catalogue. Funimation streamed the series but never released it, so the UK is the first English territory to release the show on Blu-ray.

Unboxing [UK]: Gundam Reconguista in G - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

The second MCM pickup is the second Gundam release from Anime Limited and the sole title not part of the Sunrise Gundam partnership.

Unboxing [UK]: The Vision of Escaflowne - Complete Series & Movie: Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray)

I have returned from MCM Birmingham Comic Con. It was a great trip overall and I have acquired a couple titles from Anime Limited. The first is the special new re-release of the Escaflowne franchise for the UK.

Despite the title noting Blu-ray, there is actually a DVD version of the film included.

Industry News: Funimation February 2017 Release Slate

February is pretty much the month of re-releases and unexpected new licenses.

And some sort of logic.

Let's see what Funimation has to offer for this line-up.

Unboxing [UK]: Your Lie in April - Part 1: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Back when the show was simulcasting, I did not expect this series to turn out well as much as I expected. And now it's out in the UK. This is another Aniplex title I decided to stick with the UK version for but the Anime Ltd offering was decent enough.

Here's what the set has to offer.

Unboxing [US]: Children Who Chase Lost Voices - Sentai Selects (BD/DVD)

Amazon US had a pretty solid deal going so I decided to go ahead and acquire one of Makoto Shinkai's films. This film was also called Journey to Agartha over here in the UK for some daft reason.

Otaku Collection 2016: October Update | More Japanese Imports! More Monogatari! And a Vita TV!

It's unfortunate that the rate got much worse now, so I made a decision to acquire a few imports in case anything bad happens. And to my surprise the Rightstuf order arrived on time!

So here's the items I picked up during October 2016.

Monday, 31 October 2016

Unboxing [US]: Otorimonogatari - Nadeko Medusa: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

After the falling pound occurred I was hesitant to do any more importing. But I decided to try and continue pursuing the rest of the Monogatari arcs and to my surprise they arrived today in time for the October pickups collection, however I had to pay customs as a result.

Here's a look at what Otorimonogatari's set is like.

Unboxing [US]: Kabukimonogatari - Mayoi Jiangshi: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

After the falling pound occurred I was hesitant to do any more importing. But I decided to try and continue pursuing the rest of the Monogatari arcs and to my surprise they arrived today in time for the October pickups collection, however I had to pay customs as a result.

Here's a look at what Kabukimonogatari's set is like.

Industry News: Sentai Filmworks February 2017 Release Slate

Sentai is once again going at a slow pace but we finally see the release of one of Kyoto Animation's recently loved titles. This time we have one rescue title, one Blu-ray upgrade and four new additions to the catalogue.

Here's the February 2017 line-up.

Overview [JP]: Miracle Girls Festival (Vita)

A new import has arrived once again! This time however I decided to buy the game used, due to the price of the brand new copy being around the £40s (which I felt didn't match the value of the game). I ordered the game from Solaris Japan and it arrived in very good condition.

Unboxing [JP]: IA/VT -COLORFUL- - Standard Edition (Vita)

A new import has arrived once again! I ordered the game from Solaris Japan and it arrived alongside Miracle Girls Festival.

Industry News: Funimation January 2017 Release Slate

Much like the previous years, January has always been a small slate for Funimation. Though this time we have only two new additions, one continuing title, one live-action film and a new collection.

Note: I haven't seen Shomin Sample yet but I found this gif to be a good reaction for Funimation's recent antics.
Here's the January 2017 line-up.

Tuesday, 11 October 2016

Unboxing [JP]: Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition - Standard Edition (PS4)

It's been a very long time since I last ordered a Japanese-only import. The recent events of the pound sterling and the fact that it was time for me to get a imported game convinced me to pick one up as soon as possible. Out of the PS4 games listed I decided to go with the updated version of Fighting Climax. I also ordered it via Solaris Japan and they did a very good job handling my package.

Friday, 7 October 2016

Unboxing [UK]: Free! Eternal Summer - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

So during my summer holidays I went ahead and checked out the first season of Free!. It was honestly pretty good despite the amount of backlash it had. When Anime Limited announced their version of the show's release I figured I'll go ahead with it. Plus I was able to get it for a good price given it literally just got released.

Otaku Collection 2016: September Update | The Return to Uni (upupupupupupu)

I'm now back at University and that means I can spend a lot more than the past year, however the currency rate isn't strong so I'm switching things around for the rest of the year.

Thursday, 22 September 2016

Industry News: Sentai Filmworks January 2017 Release Slate

It seems I was right about Sentai providing less titles per month, as January has only a couple. But we do have 1 Premium release... I'm speechless.

Here's the January 2017 line-up.

Tuesday, 20 September 2016

Unboxing [US]: High School DxD BorN - Complete Series: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

Issei and his journey to become the Harem King continues with the third season!

This title was among my first of two import pickups for Uni so apologies for the delay.

Unboxing [US]: Danganronpa the Animation - Complete Series: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

Upupupupupu... the Despair begins.

It's been a while but I finally got my hands on the Danganronpa anime, I was originally going to pick this up at launch but various things happened. This title was my first import pickup for Uni so apologies for the delay.

Otaku Collection #5 | 7th September 2016

Well then. It's been over a year since my last major complete collection update, and the main reason for the delay was because my average pickups per months was much lower compared to my time at University (also I was unable to find a placement so I had no choice but to take a year out instead). I decided to hold off this update until I had enough to make a difference.

If you like a quick recap on the previous update, here's my post on the 4th collection from back in April 2015. Nevertheless, here is my 5th collection update. The difference here is that I have moved things around so that I can provide more space for each specific distributor.

Remember the Otaku Collection updates contain anime, manga, asian cinema films, video games and anything related to these topics. So let's begin!

Monday, 5 September 2016

Unboxing [UK]: Terror in Resonance - Complete Series: Ultimate Edition (BD/DVD)

It's been a while since I last ordered an Ultimate Edition from Anime Limited. I own the first two titles with this treatment while I skipped the third and fourth for various reasons. Now I've picked up their fifth title after using a discount code from Music Magpie during the bank holiday.

In other words I got this set for £53.84. Here's a look at what the set has to offer.

Otaku Collection 2016: August Update | Bargains Everywhere!

Note: I didn't get any items during the month of July, henceforth no updates on that.

So after getting my accommodation payment sorted I finally got back into picking up more items. However the post-brexit currency rate was still weak for importing so I focused mainly on items from the UK. And interestingly enough, all of the items I bought were pretty good deals.

So here's the items I picked up during August 2016.

Monday, 29 August 2016

Unboxing [UK]: Senran Kagura Estival Versus - Standard Edition (PS4) [NSFW]

So if you remember back in May I ordered and received Senran Kagura Estival Versus (which you can check out an unboxing for right here). The issue here was that I ended up receiving the PlayStation Vita version. I kept the game since it would be so much hassle sending it all the way back to Canada and waited for the UK PS4 version to go at a good price. And here it is.

I'm also tagging the not safe for work note due to the reversible cover. Life and Hometown to the max.

Unboxing [UK]: Seraph of the End - Season One Part One: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Universal entered the UK market earlier this year and now I finally got my hands on their treatment for Seraph of the End -Vampire Reign-, released as Seraph of the End: Season One Part One. I picked this up at HMV for £39.99 which is a great deal.

The DVD version of this collector's edition is exactly the same, but I have the Blu-ray so here it is.

Sentai Filmworks have started to put less titles onto the line-ups, but considering it's December I'm not surprised.

Industry News: Funimation November 2016 Release Slate

So Funimation basically unveiled their line-up over at Otakon 2016 but I figured I'll wait since there's a lot of information that I want to be aware of. Then it went live yesterday and bam, there were more titles included. This is quite a packed month.

Here's the November 2016 release slate for Funimation.

Industry News: Otakon 2016 Announcements Round-up

While I was away this past weekend the Otakon convention was happening. And a ton of new information went out for a lot of companies. While Anime Expo had huge news, Otakon was fairly strong especially with Discotek Media. Like I've done with the forum post on Anime UK News I'll be going through the announcements in a quick fashion.

Overview [US]: Nisekoi: False Love - Volume 2 (Blu-ray)

Surprise! I made a deal with a fellow forum member to get the first two volumes of Nisekoi Season 1's Aniplex version. It was a good head-start to try and catch up with these sets. Here's the second volume.

Since I've gotten these used, I'll be placing them under the Overview banner of my blogposts (the format is still the same however).

Industry News: Sentai Filmworks November 2016 Release Slate

Finallly! We finally have a release date for the second season of Knights of Sidonia. In fact this month only has 5 titles which is rather short. It's also worth noting that Sentai have changed plans with My Love Story!! from two collection sets to a complete collection on December 20th (confirmed no CE).

Here's the list of anime that Sentai have scheduled for the month of November 2016.
