Overview [JP]: Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. (PS3)

Time for a throwback item (aka overview). Back in October 2014 I acquired my first non-Musou Gundam game on eBay and I didn't unbox it for my blog at the time (it wasn't until I received Initial D Extreme Stage that I decided to include games to the mix).

Here's an overview of the original release of Extreme Versus!

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. (機動戦士ガンダム エクストリームバーサス) is an action arcade style game released by Bandai Namco in 2010 before being brought over to the PlayStation 3 in 2011. The game has received multiple iterations during the next half-decade after its first release including Full Boost in 2012 (Arcade) & 2014 (PS3) followed by Maxi Boost in 2014 & 2016 exclusively in the Arcades.

Extreme Vs. is part of a long series of Versus games for the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise with Gundam vs. Gundam Next being the previous instalment. Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs-Force and Gundam Versus were the next instalments afterwards. I found Extreme Vs. to be pretty challenging and kinda complicated to play, that's not a bad thing by all means. Also there's an Linkin Park song used for the menu, which was random to witness.

This version is the standard edition as there's also another one that comes with the licensed songs that is more expensive and likely to be completely out of print at this point.

Gundam games in general are import friendly aside from the dialogue and menus. Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. and its other version Extreme Vs. Full Boost are available to own physically in Japan. As mentioned I bought the game pre-owned during an eBay sale but it's still available on Solaris Japan in both new/sealed and pre-owned copies. It's also available on Play Asia as well.
