Overview: Saya no Uta: The Song of Saya (Visual Novel) [NSFW]

Rather than calling this an unboxing (since I had the game for quite some time now), I decided to provide you all a good overview (as I call it) at one of the most fucked up games I have ever seen, but at the same time it's one of the best visual novels ever made. This release was handled by none other than visual novel publisher JAST USA.

Disclaimer - This Visual Novel is an eroge and is only suitable for a very mature audience (meaning only for ages 18 and over). Some of the photos below may contain elements that are Not Safe For Work.

Saya no Uta (known in English as The Song of Saya) is a Japanese eroge visual novel released back in 2003 by Nitroplus and the scenario was written by Gen Urobuchi, whom we all know by now as the writer of numerous works like Fate/Zero, Phantom of Inferno and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The story itself is what makes the game pretty interesting among the fan community, as it blends inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft and adds its own Urobutcher tone to the mix (i.e. dark, bad stuff will happen, nothing ends happily, you get the idea). Rather than going into full detail since it would ruin the fun, it centres around a medical student who survives a car accident that killed his parents. In order to survive the accident, he had to undergo experimental brain surgery which leaves him with a disorder that disfigures his senses so that everything ordinary in terms of sight, smell and sound is now twisted, gory and pretty much hell itself. Yep I'm leaving you hanging there, sorry folks.

This game isn't for the faint-hearted so I suggest you play this when you have an empty stomach but you can select an option that censors the explicit content in this game (it basically adds mosaics everywhere as far I hear).

This official translated release from JAST USA uses an improved version of the fan translation released in 2009 and the case contains only the disc and an instruction booklet on notes including installing the game and small character bios.

That's pretty much it to explain this release. It's very cheap to purchase online though I ended up getting one way overpriced at MCM Comic Con London. The game is relatively short and the endings are pretty easy to get since there are only a few multiple choice moments in the story. The physical release is not limited so you can still pick one up any time you want. Interesting enough, JAST USA was originally going to combine this release with Hanachirasu but instead opted to split them up as individual titles.

Saya no Uta: The Song of Saya was released by JAST USA for SRP $24.95 (£17.00) from May 6th 2013.
