Otaku Collection #6 | 30th December 2017

This update has been delayed for way too long. It's been around 16 months since my last major complete collection update, and I got way more than I had anticipated. Between the months that had passed I finished my third & final year of University and managed to get certain items once I returned home.

If you like a quick recap on the previous update, here's my post on the 5th collection from back in September 2016. Nevertheless, here is my 6th collection update. There's a lot of new additions this time around and some areas weren't updated so I omitted them out (retro games and consoles for example).

Remember the Otaku Collection updates contain anime, manga, asian cinema films, video games and anything related to these topics. So let's begin!

Monday 25 December 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Shin Godzilla (Blu-ray)

As part of the Christmas Day 2017 haul, I finally get my hands on the latest Japanese produced film in the Godzilla franchise. Really looking forward to this.

Unboxing [UK]: Assassination Classroom - Season 1 Part 2 (Blu-ray)

As part of the Christmas Day 2017 haul, here is a series that I did watch a couple episodes during its simulcast then just stopped watching it. But now I have it thanks to the Anime Limited 12 Days of Christmas sale. This second half was bundled with the first half for a special price.

Unboxing [UK]: Assassination Classroom - Season 1 Part 1: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

Unboxing [UK]: Ajin: Demi-Human - Season 1 & Movie 1: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

As part of the Christmas Day 2017 haul, here is one of my favourite recent anime which is part of Netflix's Anime Originals line-up.

Saturday 23 December 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Noein ~to your other self~ - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

A surprise package from Anime Limited's store. Their 12 Days of Christmas sale had a bunch of setbacks but surprisingly my Day 11 order arrived 24 hours after dispatch (whereas my pre-order sets took a couple more days).

Wednesday 20 December 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Sword of the Stranger - Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Much like FREEDOM, I also decided to double-dip for a better release with Anime Limited's release of one of studio Bones' films that got rescued by the distributor from the old Beez/Bandai days.

Unboxing [US]: FREEDOM - Complete Series: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

A long time ago I acquired the UK release that Manga UK put out, and it turned out to be a inferior version compared to the Beez/Bandai Visual/Honneamise/Japanese release.

Now I have finally acquired the Bandai Visual/Honneamise release, an English translated replica of the Japanese release. Let's see what it has to offer.

Saturday 2 December 2017

Unboxing [UK]: A Silent Voice - Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Kyoto Animation's movie adaptation of the well-received manga is available in English first for the United Kingdom thanks to Anime Limited, even on Blu-ray with an English dub!

Otaku Collection 2017: November Update | Kimi no Na wa? Ki ni Narimasu!

This month has had quite a lot going on for me personally, but regardless I was able to acquire a fair amount of titles including two big releases from Anime Limited. Due to a delay in stock, A Silent Voice won't be part of the November slate sadly.

Thursday 23 November 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Psychic School Wars - Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

Alongside Blood Lad I also acquired the film Psychic School Wars from Zavvi for a discounted price, but this set didn't actually turn up in stock until recently so now was the time I went for it.

Unboxing [UK]: Blood Lad - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

This set has been around since February 2015 but after many discounted prices I have finally decided to acquire it over the Viz Media release.

As teased both a few retailer leaks and also one of the titles officially noted from a convention, Crunchyroll and Funimation have some big hitters for the month of February. Let's take a look, and you best save up some cash for these lot.

Unboxing [UK]: Your Name. - Deluxe Edition (BD/DVD)

One of the most critically acclaimed anime titles to be released in recent years has now arrived all around the world, and the UK release came out just in time with the other territories.

The Deluxe Edition took a little longer than the other versions, but it is now available with only 2000 units available.

Otaku Collection 2017: October Update | Beyond the Corner of the Mobile Suit Wolfenstein Club

October went from a few items to a pretty decent haul. I decided to acquire a couple more PlayStation 3 games and managed to get some UK special editions for a good deal.

Industry News: MCM London Comic Con October 2017 Announcements

MCM Comic Con London returns for the October season, and the new announcement trend from May 2017 continues once again so there isn't much to say sadly. Like last time, I have reported on the latest announcements on behalf of Anime UK News.

Thursday 19 October 2017

Industry News: Sentai Filmworks February 2018 Release Slate

Sentai are offering a rather small slate but two of them are big sets. One of which is a cult favourite from Autumn 2016.

Unboxing [UK]: Ouran High School Host Club - Complete Series: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Thanks to a Zavvi one-day deal I finally got my hands on this anime gem, surprisingly I never managed to watch it before (as it's usually one of the first shows a lot of newcomers take a look at first).

Wednesday 18 October 2017

Monday 16 October 2017

Otaku Collection 2017: September Update | Life, Hometown and Monster Girls

September ends up being the delayed sets month for the most part. But nevertheless I have two fanservicey shows arrive in the same month!

Friday 29 September 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Yakuza Kiwami - Steelbook Launch Edition (PS4)

It's great to see Yakuza come back even bigger for the west after the hiatus it had on localisation due to poor sales on the English releases. As part of its deal with SEGA, Deep Silver will be publishing Yakuza Kiwami for UK and Europe.

Thursday 21 September 2017

Industry News: Sentai Filmworks January 2018 Release Slate

Just a couple days ago Sentai Filmworks announced they will be phasing out DVDs starting 2019 (more info on that in this blogpost) so we have 12 months left for those starting with the January 2018 slate. Bloody hell it's 2018 already.

Wednesday 20 September 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash - Girls of Paradise Collector's Edition (PS4) [NSFW]

It's summer over at Marvelous Europe despite summer already ending. The latest game in the Senran Kagura series has arrived and it's all about water guns and what not. I've picked up the collector's edition version so here it is.

Also to note, this game is Not Safe For Work because that's how it is.

Thursday 14 September 2017

Unboxing [UK]: The Anthem of the Heart - Zavvi Exclusive Collector's Edition (BD/DVD)

I had been meaning to pick up this film for a long time, originally going to go for the Aniplex version, but I decided to make use of the Unidays student deal and acquire the UK Zavvi Exclusive edition for Anime Limited's release.

Friday 1 September 2017

Unboxing [US]: Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls - Complete Series: Limited Edition (BD/DVD) [NSFW]

Sentai Filmworks' latest limited edition release has apparently broken pre-order records to the point where it's basically out of print. Never underestimate the power of monster girls.

Due to how Sentai went all out on the series, this unboxing is Not Safe For Work. There's a lot of fanservice with this set.

Unboxing [US]: Space Dandy - Season 2: Standard Edition (BD/DVD)

NO MY SLIPCOVER IS DAMAGED! HE CAN'T BE DANDY WITHOUT IT!

So yeah I finally have the second season of Space Dandy, actually looking forward to it.

Otaku Collection 2017: August Update | Taking a Break from Anime for More Games

The month of August has been a slow trend, two items were expected to arrive but ended up being delayed to September, and I decided to focus more on building my PlayStation collection!

Saturday 26 August 2017

Unboxing [UK]: Gal*Gun: Double Peace - Limited Edition (Vita)

Despite ordering the PlayStation 4 version, Rice Digital instead sent me the PlayStation Vita version and considering both were the exact same price and it's bank holiday weekend I decided there was no point in trying to wait and contact support. It's PQube's fault for making the packaging identical anyway to cause such a confusion (Marvelous did the same with Senran Kagura Estival Versus, which I also ended up with the wrong version).

Friday 25 August 2017

Unboxing [US]: Drakengard 3 - Standard Edition (PS3)

Many months ago I wanted to acquire this game when I first started my path to acquire as many PS3 games as I could. Then suddenly it went out of print and the prices spiked. Now I finally got it, thanks to a restock for both this title and also NieR.

Unboxing [JP]: Wangan Midnight - The Best! Edition Reissue (PS3)

Next up on my importing ventures is a PS3 title that's actually becoming rarer but I decided to go for a pre-owned copy due to the new retail copies becoming too dear to own.

Monday 7 August 2017

Unboxing [UK]: The Handmaiden - Special Edition (Blu-ray)

It's been well over a year since I last bought a live-action film from the Asian Cinema (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea) and recently a new film from the director of Old Boy just got released and I wanted to check it out.

Unboxing [UK]: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (BD/DVD)

It's been a long time since I last picked up a Studio Ghibli title, and while I did pickup some Blu-ray sets a few years ago I didn't prioritise on it at all. Now I have decided to try and get the rest, as Ocean Waves finally saw its Blu-ray release, concluding the Ghibli Blu-ray catalogue.

I've already done unboxings for Arrietty, From Up on Poppy Hill, and Whisper of the Heart - all three in fact now updated to the current format I use.

Now I acquired two more titles. The second is from Isao Takahata's The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.

Unboxing [UK]: The Wind Rises (BD/DVD)
