Industry News: Funimation January 2016 Release Slate

It seems the deal with Universal has made Funimation provide small release slates over the next few months but for January 2016 it's usually quite small. For 2016 Funimation have some interesting titles selected.
Here's the list of anime that Funimation have scheduled for the month of January 2016.

Also worth pointing out that Noein was originally slated for November 2015 but was pushed back to this release slate. Not a huge problem since there's a lot of good shows getting released at the end of the year anyway.

January 12th 2016

Noein ~to your other self~ - Complete Series (Standard & Limited Editions)
Region: A B/1 2 4
Publisher: Kadokawa Media Factory
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $64.98/$84.98

Special Features: Actor Commentaries, Blu-ray & DVD Spots, Original Commercials, Promotional Videos, TV Spots, U.S. Trailer, Textless Songs, Trailers
Notes: Although it's Media Factory, it's now known as Kadokawa Media Factory.

One of my favourite shows that barely anyone has watched. Noein is quite the experience with its story and really good English dub (Crispin Freeman nails it once again). The chosen art for the covers is actually from the Blu-ray Disc Box release which is great!

A Certain Scientific Railgun S - Complete Series
Region: A/1
Publisher: Geneon Universal
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $49.98

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, Textless Opening, Textless Closing, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: Like the previous Index/Railgun BD releases, there will not be a Limited Edition version for this series.

And another Geneon Universal title reaches Blu-ray! It was bound to happen but it's finally here. This is the second season to Railgun (the complete first season was released on Blu-ray exactly one year ago by the time this gets released). I haven't checked out the series but I will get them at some point.

Terror in Resonance - Complete Series (Standard & Limited Editions)
Region: A/1
Publisher: Fuji Creative Corporation
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $64.98/$84.98

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, In Depth Conversation with the Cast, Textless Openings, Textless Closings, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: No explanation with the $84.98 price tag for the Limited Edition set

One of my favourite shows of 2014 is finally scheduled for release. The series has its drawbacks but overall I really enjoyed it and the music is brilliant. The artwork chosen for the covers is nice. At the moment what's really bugging me is the price tag for the limited edition set, usually when it's priced like that it's either a double course show or there's a special physical extra being included. So far nothing's been shown but I'm curious to know what's up.

Kingdom - Season 1
Region: 1 2 4
Publisher: ???
Format: DVD
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $79.98

Special Features: Trailers
Notes: The price tag is due to the episode length (there's 38 of them).

This one is probably the biggest shocker in a long time for every fan out there. Kingdom was licensed by Funimation back in 2012 and many assumed it was one of the few titles just left forgotten because they skipped Season 2 (and the fact that it's been nearly 4 years). The only source that the series is alive in some form was when YouTube user Happy Console Gamer (which I highly recommend you check out, his videos are awesome!) revealed at one of their panels that his sideman RobMan was involved in the English dub doing voice work on secondary characters. I'm glad to hear that the series is finally seeing a release especially when I've heard positive feedback on both the manga and the anime.

One Piece - Season 7 Voyage 5
Region: 1
Publisher: Toei
Format: DVD
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $39.98

Much like the last release slate, the cover art won't be revealed yet. Heck Voyage 4 doesn't even have one still.

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, Cooking with Sanji, Textless Openings, Textless Closings, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: Contains Episodes 434-445

The Straw Hat crew is half-way through the Impel Down story arc of One Piece. Another voyage will conclude the current season that Funimation have picked up. We already know that they've secretly got Season 8 so I expect they'll try and get these sets out there as soon as possible now.

That's it for January. We already know that Evangelion: 3.33 and Free! Eternal Summer are slated for February 2016 so the new year will already have big hitters getting released. Stay tuned for when Sentai Filmworks will unveil their line-up in the next week or so.
