Industry News: Section23 Films June 2016 Release Slate

It appears I forgot to cover this release slate.. again. Apologises for that, I've been completely focused on Persona 3 that I ignored everything else going on. Never the less here's the new releases scheduled for the month of June from Sentai Filmworks and Maiden Japan.

Like the previous Sentai update I won't be putting my thoughts on each title until the bottom of the post. Sentai put out so many shows that chances of myself watching them are close to zero.

Note that on the Region specs - US means the set is Geolocked to United States.

Some re-releases this month. Medaka Box gets a complete collection set after getting Season 1 and Abnormal (Season 2) released a few years back. Medaka is a shonen series animated by Gainax and created by NisiOisin of Monogatari fame so I'm curious to check it out. For Sentai Selects we have the first season of Rozen Maiden. Most of the Rozen Maiden sets were given stack-pak box sets if I recall so I'm curious to see how this release fairs. And for a Blu-ray upgrade we get another TBS title with Shaft's And Yet the Town Moves series. Always nice to see a Shaft show released on Blu-ray.

This month is also packed with films. Hakuoki Chapter 1 gets a home release and a dub. This was a given since the main series have seen releases with a dub. Curious to see how this fares compare to the main series. Bodacious Space Pirates film also appears and I'm surprised it turned up since it came out of nowhere, we knew Sentai would acquire it but it took this long to make it happen. And the third film was rumoured but now it's confirmed that Sentai have another idol show added to their catalogue with Wake Up, Girls! They're releasing the film first which makes sense as that came out first in Japan. Unlike the previous idol release (AKB0048) this one is subtitle only and I'm fine with that as idol shows are best experienced in their original language due to the singers, but that's just my opinion and I know many fans like to watch their shows dubbed.

A few Autumn 2014 titles are making their way to home release. The controversial Cross Ange is getting dubbed which is no surprise given the show got a lot of attention during its simulcast. And Love Stage!! gets a subtitle only release which also makes sense because it's a Boy Love series (Yaoi).

Last but certainly not the least is a show that many fans have been waiting for and it just suddenly gets licensed by none other than Maiden Japan. Known in Japan and Australia as Dennou Coil, Maiden Japan are releasing the series as Den-noh Coil on both formats as well as getting an English dub which is a first for the distributor. Maiden Japan have done a great job releasing the Patlabor series on Blu-ray and I'm looking forward to this release. Maiden Japan also have the Diebuster film to sort out at some point in the future so there's more Maiden Japan on the horizon.

That's it for the June line-up, I'm sorry for the delay once again. I'll try to fix that in March.
