Industry News: Funimation November 2017 Release Slate

This past Otakon weekend, Funimation basically unveiled their November release slate so the element of surprise is pretty much gone. Nevertheless one of the most anticipated films is getting a home release.

For this slate we have 10 new shows and 2 new films getting released, plus 4 shows getting another release. Among the 12 new additions are 4 Crunchyroll titles and 8 Funimation titles. 5 shows and 1 film are getting the limited edition treatment. 1 show gets an upgrade to Blu-ray.

Project Itoh: Genocidal Organ

Your Name has finally gotten a release date, and to the surprise of no one Funimation overpriced their limited edition release. The UK version does include the original soundtrack but so far we may or may not have another special set planned that includes the booklet, I believe more info is expected from Anime Limited at the end of August.

From Kadokawa's rescue pile is Kiddy GiRL-AND which is a subtitled only combo pack. This show was once part of the select few that Crunchyroll had for streaming a couple years ago but eventually expired. Given the Crunchyroll x Funimation partnership it may crop up at some point for streaming. In addition we also see the return of The Future Diary surprisingly with the Redial OVA this time around which many of us were wondering about. Unfortunately you have to pickup the combo pack set in order to watch it so existing owners will not be happy about this.

From the Crunchyroll license deal we have 91 Days, Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Atraraxia, Myriad Colors Phantom World, and NEW GAME! Season 1. All four have English dubs and Blu-ray releases. 91 Days and Phantom World both get the limited edition treatment. UPDATE: Runtimes indicate both 91 Days and Phantom World include the OVA episodes.

From Funimation's existing backlog we have Cheer Boys, First Love Monster, Handa-kun, and Tales of Zestiria the X, all from the Summer 2016 season and all have English dub options available. And Blu-ray of course. There's also the appearance of the third and final film in the Project Itoh trilogy; Genocidal Organ which is surprisingly getting a US release a week after the Japanese home video is due. Tales of Zestiria the X does indeed include the Dawn of the Shepherd special that was previously only available from Bandai Namco's collector's edition set of the game.

Iron-Blooded Orphans will be released under Funimation by Sunrise. This series is not part of Rightstuf's Gundam deal and any future titles from the Gundam series will still remain with Rightstuf. If I had any assumptions, I would believe that perhaps Gundam Unicorn Re:0096 may also crop up under Funimation due to the publisher being listed as Anime Consortium Japan who were behind the streaming service Daisuki until recently (I believe Bandai Namco bought most of the shares or something, don't quote me on that).

And last but not least we have the already revealed Speed Racer collector's edition that has a cool design but the price point won't please everyone. Basically if you want to watch the Japanese version of Speed Racer, known as Mach Go Go Go, you can only do so by owning this release. The only version available outside this collector's edition is the already available Speed Racer dubbed version on Blu-ray & DVD. Not a smart move by Funimation.
