Unboxing [US]: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - Season 1 & 2: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

A random Amazon price glitch occurred and this one randomly turned up. I went for it since it was at a price range I felt was suitable enough.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is an original anime series animated by Sunrise and designed by CLAMP. The anime is technically a complete set but recently a third season was announced so this is just the first two seasons (R1 and R2).

Originally licensed by Bandai, Funimation rescued the show and was able to release it on Blu-ray with the Japanese 5.1 audio. However the first print of the collector's edition and DVD sets both came with Mono audio for Code Geass R2. A replacement scheme and new stock are available but as a non-US owner I can't get access to it so I was lucky enough to get a refund back from Amazon (because they had both new and old stock of the set).

For those wondering whether they have the fixed discs here's the code to figure it out, you will need to open up the set and check the disc's details in order to verify them:

Old: FN-07350
#1 DV-07350E - 2061521
#2 DV-07350F - 2061522
#3 DV-07350G - 2061523
#4 DV-07350H - 2061524

New: FN-07354
#1 DV-07354A - 2061529
#2 DV-07354B - 2061530
#3 DV-07354C - 2061531
#4 DV-07354D - 2061532

Remember this is only applied to Code Geass R2 and not the first season. If you order the collector's edition from Rightstuf you will get the fixed version.

Funimation's collector's edition release is pretty much similar to the usual limited edition sets but with two Blu-ray cases together and a cardbox outside the chipboard box containing 16 quality artcards. The cases contain 4 Blu-ray discs per season of the show in both English audio and Japanese audio with English subtitles (which are locked also). Both 2.0 and 5.1 options are available for the Japanese audio. The regions are locked to A however because Funimation only have the US & Canada rights to the series (for instance KAZE acquired the UK & French rights many years prior).

Blu-ray Specs:
Languages: Japanese, English
Audio: Dolby TrueHD 2.0 & 5.1 [Japanese], Dolby TrueHD 2.0 [English]
Video: 1080p HD Native 16:9
Region: A
Subtitles: English [Japanese language & On-screen]
Subtitles Locked: Yes
Discs: 4 [Season 1], 4 [Season 2]

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):
In 2017, parts of the world are under the control of the Holy Britannian Empire. Japan is now known as Area 11, the proud people treated as lower class citizens. Lelouch Lamperouge was once a Britannian prince but when his mother was assassinated, he was left in Japan and thought to be dead. After getting caught up in a terrorist attack, he encounters a strange girl known as C.C., who grants him the power of Geass and the ability to command others.

With his newfound powers, Lelouch becomes Zero, a rebel leader for justice, and forms his own anti-government group. His goals are simple: get answers about his mother's murder and make a world that is worthy of his beloved little sister, Nunnally. Even with his Geass, Lelouch will encounter countless challenges. But nothing can prepare him to face his former best friend, Sazaku Kururugi, a Japanese citizen...and soldier of Britannia? The power of Geass: Is it a blessing...or a curse?
