Unboxing [UK]: Ajin: Demi-Human - Season 1 & Movie 1: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

As part of the Christmas Day 2017 haul, here is one of my favourite recent anime which is part of Netflix's Anime Originals line-up.

Ajin: Demi-Human is a 2015/2016 anime series from studio Polygon Pictures, directors Hiroyuki Seshita & Hiroaki Andō, and published by King Records Company Ltd with assistance from Netflix. The anime is based on the 2012 manga written by Gamon Sakurai. You may have noticed that I mention two years instead of one unlike the other anime, well it's because there are in fact two different versions; a movie trilogy and a television series.

The first film in the movie trilogy was released in Japanese theatrical screens in November 2015, while the first season of the television series aired in January 2016 followed by an international Netflix stream in April 2016. What we have included in this release is both the first season of the series and the first film in the movie trilogy. The second & third films will be included with the show's second season set.

As mentioned Netflix have exclusive international rights to the series, offering multiple dubs & sub support for the series worldwide and eventually allowing both Sentai Filmworks (in US & Canada) and Anime Limited (in UK & Ireland) to release it on home video. The discs were authored by Sentai Filmworks so both the UK & US sets are pretty much identical on-disc wise.

While the Sentai Filmworks release has a premium limited edition, the UK collector's edition that Anime Limited have put out is in fact the better and reasonably valued release of the two. The US set offers a manga with an exclusive front cover and a couple mini tidbits like a poster, artcards and a booklet. The UK set uses the usual Anime Limited style packaging as well as a booklet with a shop exclusive A3-sized non-folded poster for half the SRP.

Other notes about the Anime Limited collector's edition release is that it includes all 13 episodes of the show's first season across two Blu-ray discs and the first film (Ajin: Compel) on one Blu-ray disc. The film is not exclusive to the collector's edition so don't worry about that. Audio options-wise, the series includes English, Japanese & Spanish audio with English & Spanish subtitles and the movie is Japanese with English subtitles only. The discs are regions A & B compatible, however the yellow subtitles are locked.
