Industry News: Crunchyroll x Funimation September 2018 Release Slate

Funimation brings us another big batch of anime including a new line of re-releases presumably replacing the S.A.V.E. editions called 'Essentials'. Also we have a few fan favourites of 2017 finally making a release.

UPDATE: This release slate has been tweaked due to changes made weeks after its reveal.

The September 2018 release slate features the following:

 - 9 new Crunchyroll licensed titles including on-going part releases
 - 2 Crunchyroll re-released titles: 1 Classics, 1 Essentials

 - 12 Funimation re-released titles: 6 Classics, 2 Essentials, 3 complete sets, 1 collection set

Due to the constant confusion over what regions the shows are exactly, I've added a 'Regions (not final)' note for the select Crunchyroll titles. The others I can expect to be completely region locked otherwise.

NEW GAME! Season 2

So we have another weird release slate.

Let's get this part out of the way, we have a new label introduced in a similar fashion to the Classics label from the previous month. This one is called Essentials and it's basically the same design but with a different name. I'm convinced this will be the new version of the S.A.V.E. Edition line or at least the middle ground between the two. Titles included in this Essentials line are Alderamin on the Sky, SERVAMP and SHIMONETA. All are available on Blu-ray at the very least.

Next we have the next batch of Classics in this month. The following now included in the Classics line are Death Parade, The Future Diary, High School DxD BorN & New, ReLIFE and Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 & √A. Once again they are all available on Blu-ray.

Now for the new additions, all from the Crunchyroll label. Sadly there are no limited edition releases in this release slate which is terrible because both Saga of Tanya the Evil and WorldEnd warranted one but for some bizarre reason they are just standard sets. Heck Bungo Stray Dogs Season 2 should have gotten one as well since the first season did but once again they pulled a Berserk/Tales of Zestiria instead. I question Funimation's logic at times.

Catalogue wise they did bring AOKANA and Brave Witches to home video at least. All of the titles added in this line-up are dubbed in English so there are no subtitled only releases. I can forgive Re:ZERO's second part not receiving one as the first part's limited edition does include a slot for this release. Same goes with Twin Star Exorcists.

We also have more One Piece collection sets and I know most folks are more or less asking for more Voyages instead.
