Upupupupupu... the Despair begins.
It's been a while but I finally got my hands on the Danganronpa anime, I was originally going to pick this up at launch but various things happened. This title was my first import pickup for Uni so apologies for the delay.
Danganronpa is based on the video game of the same name released first on PSP and then re-released on Vita which the English territories received. The story of Danganronpa's anime follows the same story as Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc where a bunch of teenagers are locked in a school together with a Bear terrorising them with Bear puns and various non-sense that would force them to kill each other. The anime was handled by Lerche who are also animating the Hope's Peak High School story arc's conclusion (Danganronpa 3).
The anime aired back in 2013 and was finally released by Funimation in November 2015. The English dub is an interesting case where it was apparently dubbed before or around the same time as the first game's localisation, so only the voice of Makoto Naegi (Bryce Papenbrook) returned for the anime while the others are different. It's also worth noting that the translations are different as well, for instance the video games used 'Ultimate' whereas the anime used 'Super High School Level'.
This release from Funimation is the Limited Edition version which is essentially the complete series (all 13 episodes, the 13th episode being the director's cut version) on Blu-ray and DVD across two slim Blu-ray cases inside a chipboard artbox. The artbox also has a foil effect so it looks shiny, and I also like it. The discs are region locked to A and 1 only while the subtitles are locked.
