March is here, and I just managed to get my hands on a physical copy for Devil May Cry 4 via an eBay auction. The original copies were getting pricier while the Best Price Edition just put me off.
Devil May Cry 4 is the latest instalment in the franchise from Capcom (and while DmC: Devil May Cry is the newest game in the series it's not canon to the main series). The game came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in January 2008 followed by a PC release a couple months after. The story follows a new character Nero but still features Dante, Lady, Trish and exclusive to this Special Edition remaster Virgil.
I did play DMC4 a while back and I liked it, but never got that far into the game. I eventually picked up the HD Collection and completed the storylines to DMC1 and DMC2, while only playing a small amount of DMC3. Now I finally got my hands on DMC4 with this remaster that Capcom announced alongside DmC's remaster. Unlike DmC, the physical copies for DMC4 was only available in Japan and Asian markets but they do offer English support so it's import friendly.
Special Edition introduces 60fps gameplay, uncompressed textures, some improved visual effects as well as a new storyline surrounding Virgil plus a Japanese audio voice track. You can also play as both Lady and Trish in this version. The reception for the Special Edition was much better received than the original and that's great to hear, since a lot of remasters from 7th to 8th generation have been rather mixed. Also included in the Special Edition are new modes; Legendary Dark Knight, which vastly increases the enemy count; and a Turbo setting, that increases game speed by 20% - this was originally exclusive to the PC version of the original base game. The Red Orbs and Proud Souls (which are used for levelling up and purchasing items) have also been re-tuned for this remaster.
Format: PlayStation 4 (also available on Xbox One and Steam)
Version: Japan

The game is entirely in Japanese unless your console is set to English. If set to English the main menus and settings will be in English also. The gameplay itself will also be simple to understand since it's a hack n slash game.
The game is also available on Xbox One and Steam worldwide but physical copies are exclusive to Japan and Asia. First print copies, like mine, did come with download codes but they have expired.
