Unboxing [UK]: In This Corner of the World - Limited Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Manga Animatsu's big contribution to a major anime production since Ghost of the Shell is now available here in the United Kingdom.

In This Corner of the World (Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni) is a 2016 anime film from director Sunao Katabuchi (who also directed Mai Mai Miracle) and is based on the manga written and illustrated by Fumiyo Kōno. The animation was adapted by studio MAPPA, whom many will know for Yuri!!! on Ice and recent titles like Inuyashiki Last Hero and Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul.

The film was crowd-funded for about five years and I presume was a passion work for the director. While the Japanese box office wasn't as big as Your Name, the film later gained a cult following and continued to perform fairly well. The director has even confirmed plans to produce an extended edition which won't be out for quite some time. UK distributor Manga Animatsu stepped in during production to offer their support and acquired the English rights to the film for worldwide distribution. Manga Animatsu sub-licensed the US rights to distributor Shout! Factory.

This release from Manga Animatsu is part of their recent limited collector's edition model. The model is basically a series or film on a standard Blu-ray case housed in a rigid chipboard clean artbox plus a see-through cover for the logos.

In This Corner of the World is available in both English & Japanese audio with unlockable English subtitles on Blu-ray plus a bonus DVD containing a few extra features. The DVD is in PAL format and it seems to have locked subtitles (or burned in I can't exactly tell). This DVD is only available through the limited edition version of the film. The Blu-ray is Region B and the DVD is Region 2 only.
