Summer may be over but I finally received a package from Rightstuf once again. This time we unbox a show that ended up on the S.A.V.E. line but instead we have the version before it.
I generally avoid buying standard sets since I prioritise on the Limited Edition versions but this situation is different. Heroic Age is an action mech series that gained quite a good reception among the community and finding out it was placed onto the S.A.V.E. line I was curious. After finding out that the original copies of the Complete Series set from Funimation were still around I decided to pick it up ($19.99 is a good deal given it was cheaper than the re-release itself!).
This version of the set was released in 2010 under Funimation. Before the well known Blu-ray/DVD combo pack style and Limited Edition artboxes were the main thing for Funimation's latest anime, they used to release Blu-rays and DVD standalone with a thick cardboard slipcase with slim-sized cases.
This set contains 2 Blu-ray cases (first case providing 2 Blu-rays with the second providing 1 Blu-ray). These style of product are basically exactly similar to the current Limited Edition sets, the only difference is that these sets are not limited (until they announce a S.A.V.E. or Anime Classic edition) and they only had one format per set (this set being Blu-ray only). Other types of sets in this style of treatment include Basilisk, Claymore, Full Metal Panic!, Samurai 7 and Shigurui: Death Frenzy (this one in particular was given a replica treatment in the UK).
