Unboxing [UK]: Yurusarezaru Mono - Limited Edition Steelbook (Blu-ray)

A Japanese remake of the award winning Clint Eastwood film now on Blu-ray from Warner Bros!

Yurusarezaru Mono (Unforgiven in English) was released in 2013 and is the first Japanese remake of a Western movie. The film that the remake is based on is Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven which won tons of awards including an Academy Award. This remake takes the western setting and sets the scene during the Samurai Edo period. The story's main plot is the same with only the characters and setting changed to reflect the Japanese culture.

Like Rurouni Kenshin, Yurusarezaru Mono was screened in six different Cineworld cinemas for only a week and released in a very special Limited Edition Steelbook. I personally haven't seen the original movie but I did bring along a friend who saw it and after watching this remake he said the film is as good as the original but with a better soundtrack. The soundtrack is beautiful in this film and probably one of my favourites.

The entire film is only in Japanese, meaning there are no other dubs included (like English etc.). To be honest, asian film are better seen in its original language as they generally don't work due to the lip-syncing.

Blu-ray Specs:
Languages: Japanese
Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 [Japanese]
Video: 1080p HD Native 16:9
Region: A B
Subtitles: English [On-Screen]
Subtitles Locked: No
Discs: 1

Since it's been released under the Warner Bros brand, the film is compatible with North America's players (and anyone with a Region A player). In terms of the Steelbook design, it's much better than Warner's last Japanese LE Steelbook release (which was plain) and looks as good for the inside cover.

Plot Synopsis (via Back Info):
For the first time in Japanese cinematic history, an American Academy Award winning film is coming to life. Lee Sang-il presents Yurusarezarumono (Unforgiven), taking Clint Eastwood's classic 1992 western story and moving East to 18th century Japan.

Ken Watanabe stars in the leading role as Jubei a relic of the Tokygawa Shogunate and an infamous and feared samurai. After the fall of the Shogunate regime, Jubei fought in a series of vicious battles slaying all men in his path and then vanished without a trace. More than 10 quiet years pass but the return of an old friend and poverty leads Jubei to abandon his peaceful life with his family, as he finds himself ensnared in the life of violence he thought he left behind. With his former comrade-in-arms, he confronts the hypocrites who profess to represent justice. Again in this new era, a vicious circle of violence begins.
