So during my summer holidays I went ahead and checked out the first season of Free!. It was honestly pretty good despite the amount of backlash it had. When Anime Limited announced their version of the show's release I figured I'll go ahead with it. Plus I was able to get it for a good price given it literally just got released.
Free! Eternal Summer is the second season from studio Kyoto Animation. The story essentially follows a group of friends who all have an interest in swimming and have made a club at their school Iwatobi. The first season has the friendly rivalry that gets resolved very well while second season is something I don't know much about.
Interestingly enough, the second season of Free! was acquired by Funimation. The first season was acquired by Crunchyroll in order to access the streaming rights. There was some rivalry over this but now it's resolved with Funimation handling the distribution for Crunchyroll's catalogue, including Free! Iwatobi Swim Club. Discotek did have a deal with Crunchyroll to release Free! and a few others on DVD but subtitled only.
This release from Anime Limited is the Collector's Edition version that covers all 13 episodes of the second season plus the OVA episode across two Blu-ray discs. The show does contain an English dub along with Japanese audio with English subtitles. Because this was sub-licensed from Funimation, the discs are also Region A compatible with the usual B region. The subtitles however seem to be locked during playback. As for the box set, it's chipboard with a slipcover. The spines do have the Anime Limited logo but the box itself is BBFC/back info free. Similarly to the Funimation Premium Edition, this release includes a 68 page booklet full of color artwork, 6 artcards (Funi has 7) and 2 stickers.
