Industry News: Funimation December 2015 Release Slate

I know I'm a week late on this one but I figured I would hold off this post because Funimation have been on a wild rampage when it comes to their release schedules. Free! Eternal Summer and Tokyo Ghoul CE went on hiatus for unknown reasons while Noein got pushed back from November to January. And let's not forget that this slate was even leaked by Amazon Canada themselves, heh.
Here's the list of anime that Funimation have scheduled for the month of December 2015.

Like Sentai Filmworks, Funimation also have very few titles planned for December. Usually they would release their titles all month but this year it seems that both distributors have decided to only release their shows for the first three weeks.

December 1st 2015

Fairy Tail - Part 18
Region: A/1
Publisher: Kodansha
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $54.98

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, Guild Pride: Quatro Cerberus, Textless Opening: MASAYUME CHASING, Textless Closings: Kokoro no Kagi and Kimi no Mirai, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: Covers Episodes 200-212.

Fairy Tail Series 2 continues at a rather fast release rate. Part 18 is the third part in the new series and continues to add 13 more episodes to the mix. I haven't caught up with Fairy Tail at this point so I have no idea what's going on (nor I should know because that would be considered spoilers, heh).

December 8th 2015

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends - Season 1 (Anime Classics)
Release Date: December 8th
Region: A B/1 2 4
Publisher: Kadokawa??
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $49.98

Special Features: Actor Commentaries, Blu-ray & DVD Spots, Original Commercials, Promotional Videos, TV Spots, U.S. Trailer, Textless Songs, Trailers
Notes: Publisher listed on cover is Kadokawa, but it should be Media Factory like the previous sets.

Haganai is a fun series. I picked up the show about nearly 2 years ago and I was lucky enough to get the LE set considering it's a rare one nowadays. The shows deserves to join the Anime Classics so I have no problems with that. One thing that does baffle me is that Funimation have put Kadokawa's logo on the cover when it's a Media Factory title. Hopefully they actually notice that and fix it (I did double check and it's definitely not a Kadokawa title, otherwise this series wouldn't even be UK & Australian compatible).

Riddle Story of Devil - Complete Series (Standard & Limited Editions)
Release Date: December 8th
Region: 1
Publisher: Kadokawa
Format: DVD
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $59.98/$64.98

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, Textless Openings, Textless Closings, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: DVD only due to Kadokawa's Blu-ray Holdback scheme.

For some reason I always recognise this title as Riddle Story of Evil. Anyway, this show has caught my attention for quite some time but it looks like I won't be getting this release for a while because Kadokawa have forced Funimation to once again release another title that Kadokawa is involved with as a DVD only release. I guess there will be a Blu-ray version but not for a long time. I mean we finally managed to get The Future Diary on Blu-ray after 2 years of waiting.

December 15th 2015

Daimidaler: Prince vs Penguin Empire - Complete Series
Release Date: December 15th
Region: A/1
Publisher: Showgate
Format: Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $64.98

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, 6 OVAs, Commercials, Promotional Videos, Textless Opening, Textless Closing, U.S. Trailer, Trailers
Notes: Like BlazBlue and Ping Pong, there will not be a Limited Edition version for this series.

That show with those crazy Penguins is finally getting a release. I've waiting quite a long time to see this show. I've heard very mixed things about this show but honestly I don't care if it's bad because I don't mind ecchi shows and crazy comedy (even if it's damn flat). My friend found the show to be quite hilarious and I hear it's the same studio who worked on High School DxD so there's something. Given it's a Showgate title it's going to be region locked which is a shame but at least it's coming to Blu-ray. Quite disappointed there's no limited edition set planned but you get what you get.

One Piece - Season 7 Voyage 4
Release Date: December 15th
Region: 1
Publisher: Toei
Format: DVD
Languages: English & Japanese (w/English subs)
Price (SRP): $39.98

Funimation never get their cover arts revealed for One Piece until weeks later.

Special Features: Episode Commentaries, Chopper Plays Doctor, Textless Openings, Trailers
Notes: Covers Episodes 422-433.

One Piece is progressing as fast as usual. The Straw Hat crew is currently somewhere in the Amazon Lily arc of Summit War. I hope Funimation managed to get to New World by the end of 2016 of course it's wishful thinking but you never know.

-----

That's it for the December line-up. Really small but hopefully they get more shows out there in 2016. It's possible that the deal with Universal may have forced Funimation to reduce their line-ups while there's also the possibility that the Broadcast dubs have also put some impact with the release since many VAs are busy with those.

Sentai's line-up for January should be revealed very soon so I'll get a post up for that when it happens.
