Random Topic: Round-Up of Summer 2015's Legal Anime UK Streaming List

The Summer season is now over and the Fall/Autumn season is just about to start fairly soon, so for this random topic I wanted to talk about the results of the legal streaming services and what titles they all picked up during the season. I know a lot about the UK so it's an easy discussion but I'm not going to cover North America or Australia because it's pretty tough trying to find out what's new on their side when I can't even access them.

Charlotte was one of the most popular titles of the Summer 2015 season, but it ended up with the same problems that plagued Angel Beats! Nevertheless it's available to watch legally on Crunchyroll for UK fans.

For some reason I can imagine Yuu representing Funimation while the girl represents the UK. Mainly because we get screwed over in the legal anime streaming business.
This Summer has been crazy for UK fans because they received a lot of catalogue titles thanks to Viewster and the Crunchyroll simulcasts have been fairly strong with only a couple titles being missed out. Animax went dead for months and came back with 'simulcasts' despite being ridiculously late while Wakanim UK is pretty much defunct from now on.

Crunchyroll

Starting with Crunchyroll we have received a total of 24 anime simulcasts and 4 Japanese drama simulcasts. That's a strong number as usual as Crunchyroll have been doing their best to support as many countries as possible.

The following titles available for simulcast include:
 - Akagi [J-Drama]
 - Charlotte
 - Classroom Crisis
 - Danchigai
 - Death Note [J-Drama]

Daisuki

Next up Daisuki stepped up for the UK with a couple of simulcasts, though most of them were delayed they still became accessible for the UK. No one know whether they're supposed to be made available because their social media only acknowledges the US area but I guess it's because Funimation had the rights.

The following titles available for simulcast include:
 - Aquarion Logos
 - Bikini Warriors
 - Gangsta.
 - God Eater
 - Hetalia: The World Twinkle
 - The iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls Season 2
 - Milpom

Viewster

Probably the biggest surprise of the season. Viewster stepped up their game with a couple of simulcasts and a ton of catalogue titles. No joke, a lot of the catalogue titles were huge surprises for many of us. We did lose out on four Funimation titles but I'm sure they'll come back someday. Some of the titles listed below were added on behalf of Anime Limited, whom have been searching for the right place to simulcast their latest titles and judging by how this season went it looks like they found the right home. Next season will offer a new subscription service for ad-free HD content on new & existing titles so I'm curious to see how that turns out.

The following titles available for simulcast include:
 - Aoharu x Machinegun
 - Castle Town Dandelion
 - Chaos Dragon
 - Gangsta.
 - Fairy Tail Series 2 [From Episodes 240 onwards]
 - Hetalia: The World Twinkle
 - The iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls Season 2
 - Prison School
 - Snow White with the Red Hair

The following titles available as catalogue titles include:
 - Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka

 - DNA²
 - E's Otherwise
 - Eureka Seven
 - Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei!
 - Full Metal Panic!
 - Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
 - Fushigi Yuugi OVA
 - Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
 - Gunslinger Girl
 - Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino

Animax UK

And of course there's this site. I've mentioned in a previous random topic that I found them to be very problematic and they still aren't listening to everyone's feedback (they even blocked those who don't like their service on Twitter). This season they have 2 titles and a couple film catalogues thanks to Anime Limited.

The following titles available for simulcast include:
 - Overlord
 - Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace

The following titles available as catalogue titles include:
 - 009 Re:Cyborg
 - Giovanni's Island
 - HAL
 - Patema Inverted
 - Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning
 - Tiger & Bunny: The Rising

Netflix

And last but not least there's Netflix. This service rarely adds anime as simulcasts but they do have worldwide streaming rights to Knights of Sidonia so there's that. They recently started adding their service in Japan and they have quite a lot of titles. The Seven Deadly Sins is rumoured to appear on Netflix at some point but there's still no real confirmation as to whether they actually have worldwide streaming rights or not.

The following titles available as catalogue titles include:
 - Appleseed Alpha
 - Genius Party
 - Genius Party Beyond
 - Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine
 - Mind Game
 - Mushi-Shi -Next Passage-
 - Persona 3 the Movie #2: Midsummer Knights Dream
 - Princess Arete
 - Tweeny Witches

Overall it's a strong summer for legal streaming. We did lose out on a couple of titles but that's partially due to Funimation and certain Japanese companies who are quite strict in terms of licensing. In the end the UK and Ireland have missed out on these shows:

 - Actually, I am...
 - Bary-san no Imabari-ben Kouza
 - Boo Boo Boy
 - Chu Feng: BEE
 - Dragon Ball Super
 - Junjo Romantica 3
 - Kaijuu Sakaba Kanpai!
 - Kurayami Santa
 - Pikkapika Summer
 - Q Transformers 2
 - Seiyu's Life!
 - SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist
 - Sky Wizards Academy
 - Suzakinishi the Animation
 - To Love-Ru Darkness Season 2
 - Venus Project -CLIMAX-

There is a chance that they will eventually be made available for us sometime in the future. Viewster managed to pick up some titles from the previous season which was nice because last season had a lot of big hitters which we missed out on, one of them in particular that is still unavailable is The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan which is one show that I really want to watch.
