Industry News: Section23 Films January 2016 Release Slate

As usual Sentai Filmworks teases their line-up with a couple of new license announcements but just today they have fully revealed their January 2016 release slate. This line-up includes one title re-released for the Sentai Selects line, one title coming to Blu-ray after a hold-back and dozens of new additions coming to Blu-ray and DVD. Maiden Japan even have one title coming out!

Here's the list of anime that Section23 Films have scheduled for the month of January 2016.

The announcements that Sentai have made recently, all of them appear in this line-up, which is not surprising since they've been doing it for quite a while now. What's interesting is whether they receive an English dub or not, many of the announcements made before the release slate have ended up being subtitle only. I have no problem with subtitle only titles but I know there are folks out there who want dubs.

Sentai infos tend to be late so the ??? listed will be updated in the future.

Rather than going into detail with each title I decided to sum up my thoughts at the bottom of this post since I haven't watched most of these shows in this list. For starters I'm surprised to see Corpse Party get licensed in the end, I watched the OVA series fansubbed because I didn't think it would ever get a release outside Japan despite the video games getting localised. But now I can finally own the set and at least it's priced pretty reasonable, but one thing I do want to know is whether Maiden Japan managed to acquire the Prologue OVA (known in Japan as Corpse Party: Missing Footage).

Tamako Market has escaped the Blu-ray holdback from TBS and finally receive a Blu-ray release. I'll pick that one up at some point in the future (I like KyoAni shows). Re: Hamatora has given the fanbase a mixed bag so I'm still curious about it all. And lastly Hanayamata is getting an English dub, that's a surprise. So overall it's an okay list, they've got a lot of the simulcast shows out of the way and there's some surprises mixed in.
