Unboxing [US]: Michiko & Hatchin - Part 2 (BD/DVD)

Using whatever I had left, I decided to get some of the Part 2 sets that I had to get before it was too late. Michiko & Hatchin may still be in print but with a S.A.V.E. edition now around I doubt the part sets will last another 12 months, but nevertheless I managed to get a copy and here it is.

Here's an overview of the second half of Michiko & Hatchin.

Michiko & Hatchin aired back in the late 2008-early 2009 season, and was not touched upon in the English territories until Funimation picked it up (as Shinichiro Watanabe was involved with the production) and released it in 2013. The show unfortunately didn't sell well as they expected but it managed to air on Toonami with positive viewings (1 million views is a big thing for anime when airing in North America).

I watched the first half back in early 2014 and I loved it, really enjoyed the tone and story as well as the characters and music. The opening song, while instrumental, is really entertaining and fits the show very well. The English dub is also very well done considering it's setting, which for anime is pretty rare when a lot of them just focus on Japan (which makes sense because cultural & historical reasons).

This Funimation release contains the second half of the series with episodes 12 to 22 on Blu-ray (2 discs) and DVD (2 discs). Given this is a Funi release the extra content is self-explanatory with the usual Funi extras but there are extras that stand out like Original Commercials and Hatchin: The Girl We All Love. Given this is a Media Factory title the series is compatible with Region A and B players (US, UK, Europe & Australia) while the DVDs are Region 1 & 4 (US & Australia).

The blacktop is scorching and dreams dangle just out of reach in this riveting conclusion to Michiko & Hatchin, a knock-down, drag-out adventure from the creators of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo!

Every bend in the road hides an ambush as Michiko and Hatchin continue their mad dash to track down Hiroshi: a man from their past that could hold the key to their future. Hit men, kidnappers, and sadistic gangbangers fill their rearview mirror as these ladies on the lam burn rubber across the Latin landscape. With the throttle wide open and their motorcycle pointed toward the ocean, Michiko and Hatchin defy fate by living freer than they\’\ve ever lived before. New friendships are forged, young love blooms, and the partners in crime inch ever closer to the man they seek. But just as the long-awaited reunion is about to become reality, the law closes in on them – leaving Michiko to face an agonizing decision that will change both of their lives forever.

As an added bonus, I've taken some screenshots of both parts together with the Limited Edition artbox. The spines themselves match perfectly.

Michiko & Hatchin is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Funimation as part of the S.A.V.E. edition brand. The original Part 1 & 2 sets are still available at the time of this post but I highly recommend you pick up those original sets especially the Limited Edition version because the show is worth it. The series is also available in Australia from Madman on Blu-ray and DVD while it's DVD only by MVM Entertainment in the UK.
