If you live in the UK you may be familiar with this particular name. Scotland Loves Anime is a film festival dedicated to screening the latest (and in some occasions older) anime movies out there in Scotland; Glasgow and Edinburgh. The host for the festival is none other than Andrew Partridge who is also in charge of the UK anime distribution company Anime Limited. SLA always pops up during the Fall time each year and now this year's festival line-up has been revealed.

Last year anime fans were given the chance to watch a mix of newly released titles and also various others depending on the circumstances. The new films included the likes of Appleseed Alpha, Bayonetta: Bloody Fate, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Giovanni's Island, Lupin the Third vs Detective Conan the Movie & K: Missing Kings, in addition to a variety of other films including the original Ghost in the Shell (to celebrate the anniversary and Blu-ray release), Sword of the Stranger (as part of the Studio Bones theme), Time of Eve: The Movie (to celebrate the launch of the successful kickstarter campaign) and Wings of Honneamise (Anime Limited's recent film license). The festival has been around for quite a while now and Andrew Partridge does his best to try and get the best films added each year as much as he could. There have been some occasions where certain films did not make the cut. Berserk Golden Age: The Descent was a notable one as the film's tone and mature content (as well as the possibility of the BBFC cutting certain scenes) prevented its inclusion into the line-up, while others like Lupin the Third: Jigen's Gravestone (which has been requested during that time it was screening in Japan) didn't make the cut presumably due to licensing restrictions.
And now it's 2015, and the line-ups for both Glasgow and Edinburgh have been revealed. This year includes a mixture of some unexpected inclusions to the line-up like the addition of the recent live-action Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) films that screened in Japan very recently. As Studio Canal generally doesn't get involved in these type of festivals the films The Boy and the Beast and When Marnie Was There was not included in the line-up, however both films will instead be screened at a different festival sometime in October called BFI London Film Festival. The distributors involved with the Scotland Loves Anime line-up include Animatsu & Manga Entertainment, Anime Limited, Funimation and some Japanese companies including NTV and Bandai Visual.
This year's festival will see the UK premiere of the 2015 Ghost in the Shell movie, Love Live! The School Idol Movie, Miss Hokusai, The Missing Case of Hana & Alice, Project Itoh: The Empire of Corpses and Psycho Pass: The Movie. Attack on Titan fans will be treated with both compilation films of the first season (Part 1: Crimson Bow & Arrow and Part 2: Wings of Freedom) that also include new scenes to help tie into the upcoming second season planned for 2016, as well as the live-action Japanese films as mentioned. Madoka Magica fans will also be given the opportunity to watch the anticipated sequel to the recap movies and the TV series (which either way you watch it) The Rebellion which is also getting released on Blu-ray and DVD around the same time. Naruto fans will also be able to watch the most recent films The Last and Boruto, both of which are set after the ending of the long running shonen manga series.
While theatrical distribution may not always mean they have the home video rights, it's interesting to see Expelled from Paradise and Love Live! The School Idol Movie under Anime Limited's name as distributor. On another note it's interesting that Funimation has hopped in for the festival as they are a US distributor but they do have the rights to Project Itoh which could possibly mean they also have UK rights (a lot of titles Funimation have released do include UK rights when it comes to home video distribution however in some cases they sub-license these rights to the likes of Manga & Anime Limited). Funimation have yet to announce the rights to the Attack on Titan compilation films but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they haven't already.
