One of the biggest gaming conventions this year has just ended and it's been one heck of a ride for many video game players. For this post I decided to continue discussing my overview thoughts and reactions to the games revealed and/or detailed at Tokyo Games Show 2015. In the first post I covered nearly half of the games announced at Sony's CEJA conference, and in this part I'll be covering more of them.
As mentioned I'll be going through all of the titles that have caught my attention from the expo. If you haven't seen the first part here it is.
World of Final Fantasy
Format: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (Exclusive)
Release Date: 2016 (Worldwide)
This title caught everyone off guard when it was announced at E3 but some information has cropped up from TGS. The developers have targeted this game towards a younger audience, which explains the artstyle and chibi characters. The trailer itself went into more detail as to what this game is and it even features the cactus character Mirage as well as many classic Final Fantasy characters like Cloud from Final Fantasy VII appearing. The game is heading to English territories but a final date has yet to be revealed. Overall it's gathered my interest but I want to know a little bit more about the game before diving in.
Star Ocean V: Integrity & Faithlessness
Format: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 (Exclusive)
Release Date: February 25th 2016 (Japan), 2016 (North America & Europe [PS4 version only])
Not much information for the game considering it's already been detailed before but I cannot wait for this game to come out (it's definitely going to get localised since it was shown off at Square Enix's E3 conference this year). The visuals and gameplay are incredible and although I haven't played the other instalments (speaking of which Star Ocean 2's PSP remake is coming to PS4 and Vita in the future) I still want to play this one. I'll find a copy of the fourth game before diving in just to get used to the gameplay and story lore.
In terms of new information, the green-haired female character with the intriguing design is known as Fiore Burnelli and the developers have confirmed she is actually wearing clothes for those wondering. The other new information is the reveal of the Ultimate Box Edition that will be available to pre-order on Square Enix's website. The set contains a five disc original soundtrack, The Art of Star Ocean artbook, DLC that allows the music change to songs from previous Star Ocean games, postcards, a certificate with a unique serial number, special packaging and a Miki figure. All of this is priced at 25,000 Yen (around $208.28 and £135.20). And lastly, Japan's release date was revealed for late February which is a sign that the English release could arrive later in the year.
Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Format: PlayStation 4 (Exclusive)
Release Date: 2016 (Worldwide)
We knew Dream Drop Distance would receive a HD remaster at some point, it was the only major Kingdom Hearts title that had yet to receive one (and it's pretty important because it's pretty much a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III). Now they announced not only a HD remaster but also two other things and put them together for another HD Collection, this time just for PS4. While I am excited for this, I'm quite surprised it's only for PS4 because the third main instalment is on PS4 and Xbox One.
The HD collection's other two additions is Kingdom Hearts X (chi): Back Cover, a movie feature that explains the events of the smartphone title (not sure if it's an actual summary of the game or just a prologue), and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage, a brand new episode that explains the events of what happened to Aqua from Birth by Sleep's ending. It's also using the Unreal Engine which also explains why it's not on PS3. Pretty much this whole package is to help bridge the missing gaps in this ridiculously complex storyline and act as a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III. It's still funny how we all thought the game would be called Kingdom Hearts 2.9.
Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone
Format: PlayStation 4 (Exclusive)
Release Date: 2016 (Japan)
It's a shame no one is talking about this title because it's a pretty huge one. Hatsune Miku Project Diva F is a fun rhythm game on PS3 and with Project Diva X coming to PS4 I never thought we'll be getting another Project Diva game for the same console announced within a few weeks apart. Project Diva Future Tone is based on the Project Diva Arcade versions that Japan's got in their stores and places. Project Diva Arcade has a different art style and has been updated constantly to include more songs and even up the frame rate to 60fps.
The PS4 version will be digital only but it's one heck of a package. Over 200+ songs will be included plsu it's going to be in 1080p 60fps which is going to be crazy for everyone, no DLCs as well. I can't wait for this and it's not going to be a problem to acquire thanks to the multiple account support on the PS4.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Format: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (Exclusive)
Release Date: 2016 (Japan)
Those who are familiar with Vanillaware may recognise their work for their beautiful art styles for Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Muramasa and Dragon's Crown. And now they have announced a new title! Their new game will feature mechas and female pilots in a modern setting which seems to be a new thing for the developers as their works tend to be set in medieval times or historical.
Their trailer mainly showed off the characters and setting but the music is just beautiful and very cyberpunk. I expect this will see a release outside Japan at some point.
New Danganronpa V3
Format: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (Exclusive)
Release Date: 2016 (Japan)
Credits go to Reddit's Razputin7 who translated the trailer so that we can understand what they're all saying, thanks! |
That moment when you spot the developer wearing a Monokuma shirt you'll know it's going to be good. Danganronpa 3 was offically announced and I cannot wait for it to happen! Of course I have yet to play Another Episode so I still got some content to play with but still I'm glad to see a new instalment is in place. Interesting enough it's coming to PS4 so that's another Vita exclusive gone away but unlike Gravity Rush it's at least getting a Vita version so everyone's happy. Monokuma and Monomi are back with their silly but hilarious dialogue (Monokuma said 'Is it coming to PlayStation Vita? or is it coming to PlayStation 4?' with Monomi responding 'But I don't have a Vita or PS4!' followed by Monokuma saying 'Then why are you watching this conference anyway!'), upupupupu.
I am curious to see where the direction of the game is going given the first one took place at a school and the second took place at a deserted island. Many people think it could take place in space but that would be interesting.
And that concludes the second part of my thoughts/reactions for TGS. The conference did announce other titles:
- Romance of the Seven Kingdoms 13
- Romance of the Seven Kingdoms 13
- SaGa Scarlet Grace
- Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna
- Exist Archive
- Resident Evil Umbrella Corps
- Dragon Quest Builders
While I appreciate Capcom's efforts to get back on their feet, they really made a poor decision with Umbrella Corps, that was literally the only major problem everyone had with Sony's CEJA. I will be surprised if they manage to make it better than Operation Raccoon City.
My third part on TGS will cover the various titles announced/detailed throughout the week including Persona 5 and YU-NO! Stay Tuned.
